Through periodic inspections, the City of Omaha has discovered significant sewer repairs needed on a public sanitary sewer that runs through the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium. There is a 12in vitrified clay pipe by the Cheetah house and lagoon that has two pipes with significant breaks. The sanitary sewer will be rerouted because train tracks and lagoon would be greatly compromised. The damaged 12-inch sewer will be plugged and filled with flowable fill. This project will be in two phases with the first phase to start in September 2025.
Main pathway north of Owen Sea Lion Pavilion towards the Cheetah compound and the main pathway crossing the Lagoon from Mammoth Plaza to the Cheetah compound will be either rerouted or partially fenced off temporary during the construction. Construction paths could change or be redirected at any time due to construction issues that may arise.
